I drove up to Wilmington and back yesterday. On the way, I drove into the sun and noticed that it was catching on the large crack that has appeared in the middle of our windshield.
On the way back, I was passed by a big truck.
Both moments were completely mundane and unremarkable. Both have been preserved in photographs, made into something beautiful (I would argue). The act of taking pictures seems to be fundamentally about directing focus. Suddenly I find myself noticing more, framing shots in my mind. There was a whole world of amazing small things between here and Wilmington that I’d driven past 100 times before and never seen.

Beautiful pics of an everyday drive. I’m not worried about you snapping pics while driving…I don’t drive to Wilmington.
Yes, it is lovely that an iphoto app can turn the mundane into the (arguably) attractive, but would you please stop taking photos while driving? Think of the obituary. “Man obsessed with common digital photo application dies while attempting to create beauty from crap.” Your kids would never live it down at school.
P.S. Your photos make me anxious.
And dude, get that huge crack fixed. A small pebble hits that the wrong way on the highway and you’ll have a face full of shattered glass. Now THAT would be a picture!
Love to the kids and Robbi.
