You always hear about Second Child Syndrome, how the first gets all the good stuff and then the second gets jack bananas. I have to say, upon his arrival, Kato was lavished with just as many generous gifts from friends and family as Alden had been (even from folks we only know virtually through the blog). So, the generosity of others is not at all in question. However, things have taken a turn for the worse, now that generosity is left squarely in our hands.

Pop quiz: which child came first?

The one eating cereal out of the lovely little Royal Doulton Bunnykins dinnerware set (purchased on our trip to England) paired with an antique silver-plated spoon…

OR…

The one eating out of a plastic measuring cup that used to belong to Ruby, the dog we occasionally dogsit, whose dogfood bag was once emptied during the course of her stay and so we forgot to return the cup that had been inside the bag, paired with a rubber-handled spoon which I think was accidentally returned in the diaper bag after an extended stay at Annie and Uncle D’s house and continues to languish here because, as with the measuring cup, we are too lame and rude to return things to the people they actually belong to…?

Let it be known, however, that Kato’s “bowl” is actually much more practical. The handle makes it so much easier to dump the cereal and milk all over oneself, as both kids seem to do on a regular basis.
